There is this bible story, very simple and one most of us usually forget but which I have found very interesting. It is the story of the lame man at the pool of bethesda in John 5: 1-9
Bible tells us about a lame man who lay at a pool called Bethesda. Bethesda is Aramaic which translates to “House of mercy” and so it was believed that from time to time an angel came to stir the water of the pool. If any one could get in when this happened he/she would receive a healing. This lame man lay beside the pool for 38 years. Can you just picture it? Lying beside a pool for 38 years waiting for your time? watching other sick people get in and receive their miracles? He must have had different friends there that got their miracles, he must have heard them say “dont worry your time would come.” If that is not a terrible life then I dont know what it is. Jesus who was passing saw this man and knowing that he had been there for 38 years had mercy on him.
Now this is the interesting part: Jesus asked him what he wanted in John 5: 7 and instead of him to tell Jesus the great healer to heal him he said
“Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.”-KJV
Let us relate it to our lives. Many of us are so carried away with our problems and issues that we face the wrong direction, seeking answers in the wrong places. We are so carried away, that we are not looking up to God the true helaer or listening to his voice when he is asking “what do you want me to do? “. We cry “Father! Father!” But when he answers, we turn around and wait for a pastor to lay hands.
Although the man was healed, thank God, I want us to change our mind set about recieving miracles and answers to prayers. Sometimes it is not about the miracle service or the convention. It might not happen in the prayer house or the church you have heard of, it might not be Shiloh or Redeem convention. Your miracle and answer to your prayers might just come to you in your room or in the toilet.
God is everywhere so dont restrict him to the “pool of bethesda”. Stay connected with him so you would realise when he is standing right infront of you saying “what shall I do for you daughter/ son.”
